Translating is a very demanding work. Many people think that it is enough to have a dictionary in order to translate. Few people understand how complicated translating is. Software localization is a special type of translation. Localization is not only the translation of one program into another language, but also its adopting for the local market and the local users. People often ask if localization is really necessary. They assume that everybody knows English language good enough to be able to use any software. However, if one only thinks of medical equipment, the necessity of localization will become quite clear. If medical staff wouldn’t know exactly what some of the functions are for, they could put patients’ lives in danger.
Translation should be done extremely skillfully, with great attention to details, and it should always be supervised and proofread. Only in that way can the quality of translation be achieved.
